HCL ME X1 Review of the Tablet and Rooting Guide. Hands on video and photographs.

hcl-me-x1-launch

What we have here is Abhay Deol (the one in the middle wearing shades), standing with two HCL management dudes (seriously, I do no know their names). With a made up photo-op smile plastered all over their faces and the HCL ME X1 dangling precariously from their extended hands, this is how HCL introduced their latest offering for the budget tablet segment.

The tablet is priced at Rs. 10,490.00 and should be available at most HCL shops or electronic / mobile phone retailers. I got a review piece of the HCL ME X1 and I played with it for a day.

Most Glaring Omission : No Android Market

I can not believe, HCL took a decision not to put the official Android Market. Instead they went with the HCL ME App Store market on the HCL ME X1, this is a serious short coming.

Looks

The tablet is heavy but somewhat thin. The body is made of aluminum, but HCL could have done a better job by using brushed aluminum or even high grade plastic (to reduce cost) instead. The tablet does not look sleek.

What you can do with the HCL ME X1 Tablet.

Here are two videos, I shot of the HCL ME X1 tablet, I shot the video using a Samsung Galaxy Tab, there was not much ambient light, and I forgot to turn on the flash. The video is a little shaky.

Booting sequence

Apps, Firmware information, etc

As you can see this is a lightly customized UI by HCL. The tablet is loaded with apps from various Indian companies such as Jeevansathi, Clear Trip, Hungama and few others.

As budget tablet goes the capabilities are in tune with what other tablets of this category can do

Video and Music , Facebook, Twitter

The HCL ME X1 can play full HD videos at 1080i resolution, but the 800×480 screen does not do the HD videos much justice. You can play streaming Flash videos from sites such as youtube, Megavideo, Dailymotion etc and they look good. There is a built in Twitter and Facebook app which you can use for social networking.

Instant Messenger

The HCL ME X1 comes pre loaded with the Fring IM. You can use Fring IM to chat with your friends on Yahoo, MSN, Google Talk, Skype etc. Alternatively, you can also download more IM apps such as Nimbuzz to do VOIP chat.

Gaming

The HCL ME X1 bundles a side scrolling, 2d game called the Jumping Ninja, with the tablet. The graphics are nothing to write home about but can give you a fair idea about the touch responsiveness of the tablet. The tablet supports 3D games and you can download, NFS, Asphalt, Final Strike etc and play them. The visuals however are not crisp and looks somewhat washed out.

Office Work.

The X1 tablet comes bundled with the QuickOffice app. You have to connect the tablet to the Internet to activate the app. You can create, edit MS office documents with the this app.

Ebook Reader, News, PDF

The tablet is pre loaded with Aldiko ebook reader, You can read ebooks in .prc, .epub. This app can download thousands of free ebooks to your X1 Tablet. You can also import your existing ebooks in the ePub or PDF format. You can download the Acrobat PDF reader app for reading PDF’s. The Kindle App is also supported, so you can buy or download books from Amazon Kindle store.

Browsing.

The stock browser is quite good and responsive and can play Flash  videos too. You can download more browsers from the app market.

Buy this tablet if

1. You do not want in built 3G support.

2. You are ok. with somewhat washed out videos.

3. You want to play 3d games

4. You like to watch streaming Flash based videos

5. You will use WiFi or USB 3G dongles to connect to the internet.

6. You are Ok with slower speed of data access from sd card or internal storage.

Tech Stuff

On the box it is mentioned that the tablets come from a plant in Puducherry (Pondicherry, India). I am not sure if they are just packed there or assembled there.

The CPU that powers HCL ME X1 Tablet

HCL have not released any details about the processor they are using, but thanks to a tip from @naju and work of @gautam we found out that the the HCL ME X1 is using a m801_88 PCBA and a Telechip TCC-88XX cpu for it. @gautam also took a copy of the build.prop from /system and we confirmed that it is indeed running on a Telechip CPU.

The TCC 8803 is a 32 bit RISC CPU, with ARM Cortex-A8. It supports the ARM V7 instruction set and is clocked at 1Ghz but can be overclocked to 1.2 Ghz. The TCC cpu is great at playing HD videos but has some overheating problems.

What the TCC8803 CPU packs

  • ARM Mali – 200 2D/3D graphics accelerator,
  • DDR / DDR2 / LP-DDR2 / LP-DDR2 memory interface,
  • LVDS Transmitter,
  • HDMI 1.4,
  • Composite TV-Out (NTSC / PAL),
  • USB 2.0 HS OTG,
  • USB 2.0 host,
  • USB 1.1 HOST,
  • EHI (External Host Interface),
  • UART,
  • NAND Flash Interface

Rooting the HCL ME X1 Tablet

The HCL ME X1 tablet runs Android 2.3.3 which can be easily rooted using Gingerbreak. You can visit http://jailbreakandroid.org/how-to-root-phones-or-tablets-running-android-2-3-gingerbread.html  to download Gingerbreak and see the steps to root the HCL ME X1 tablet. I did not root the sample review piece given to me or take a ROM backup since, that was a pre condition before they (HCL Distributor) gave me the tablet :-)

Acoording to @naju, in the comments, he mentions that if Gingerbreak is not working, you can try SuperOneClick root app which uses the psneuter crack to gain access.

@naju also wrote the procedure to root the HCL ME X1 Tab using SuperOneClick if Gingerbreak is not working. I am pasting the procedure here for easy access. Credit goes to @naju.

You can ROOT the device using superoneclick.for that First of all setup ADB on your pc.Install android SDK,while installing it asks to choose packages to install there u select only Android ASK package-revision 1.go to this link it will show how to install sdk in ur pc.
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-adb-and-how-to-install-it-android/

Restart you Pc after setting up ADB and Android SDK installation
Download and install SuperOneClick tool
In adb run this
adb devices
adb shell
echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf
Then open “SuperOneClick” and “auto”.
Reboot the device and update Superuser from Market.

superoneclick will take some time to root sometimes it shows not responding, dont terminate the program let the program run for 10 min.it happens for me while rooting.

Customer Support.

Customer support will be provided by the HCL Shops. There is a customer support App too, which you can see in the video. If you are connected to the Internet, running that app will connect you to the HCL Support center. This is a quite novel idea.

My Verdict

The screen looks washed out to me, and I was not impressed with the overall look of the device. The absence of the Google App market is a glaring mistake. The accelerometer/gravity sensor was slow to respond and the touch became a tad unresponsive sometimes. This is coming from a guy who handles a lot of tablets. But for an average user, the device should be ok for casual use. The XTAB Tablet from NXG Electronics, seems a better buy, due to its CPU and more inbuilt storage (8 GB), custom ROMs , but costs around Rs. 1500.00 more than the HCL ME X1.

  1. that’s a good review. thanks :) i want 2 know that this tablet can install apps from the card, ain’t it??? and rooting the tablet means getting rid of the bloatware and overclocking….us the tablet good enough or should i gather a few bucks and go for the ideapad a1????….waiting your response :)

Ideapad can not be rooted. Yes, rooting means, custo roms, removal of bloatware, overclocking , the works. But the 8 bit NAND access path will be a bummer, even SD card access will be slower.

well thanks for the response. :)
i actually want to buy a low priced tablet (i.e., 11,000 or so). as for the current market offerings, i found that the HCL MEX1 is good enough, but as i found it is missing the android market, a doubt crept in my mind. can it run ANY android GB app (installed from the SD card)???…if so, i m8 go in for this one. sorry for bugging you :P , but i REALLY wanna law mah hands on a cheap tablet before getting my SG 750.

I wasnt able to test that. They gave me the device on some conditions, no rooting, no dumping of firmware, no installing of apps. But i think aps2sd is enabled.

Very nice site you have got here. Most importantly can you confirm the cpu inside HCL ME X1, is it really Marvell Techology’s Armada 610? If that is the case then this tablet shouldn’t be bad at all. After all Marvell is among the pioneer in ARM processors.

Like or Dislike this Comment ::==> Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

    • Arpan Deb says:

I am not sure since I was not allowed to install any apk on the review piece and nothing is mentioned in the settings etc. But given HCL’s history of favoring Marvell processors and the need to keep costs low, it was a fair assumption that it contains a Marvell CPU.

Do not get me wrong, Marvell CPU’s are good but not as good as those from Qualcomm or Samsung. The 8 bit NAND access bus and the 32 bit memory access bus is slower compared to Qualcomm and Samsung’s equivalent processors that have 32 bit NAND access bus and 64 bit memory access bus.

This can lead to a significant difference when accessing files from NAND / RAM / SD Card.

Please dont find me annoying, but could you please please find out about the processor by talking to their executive/representative, something like you did with the people from xtab!!! I really want to buy this budget tab but only if the processor is from a reputed company and not from any chinese or cheap stuff like Telechips TCC8803, Rockchip etc.

  7. Aurobindo says:

I like this website very much and respect the man behind it but I must say that from the very beginning Arpan has been favoring the xTab above HCL Me X1.

If you read reviews of the armada 610, it is equally powerful as the samsung S5PV210, except for the slower 8 bit NAND access bus and the 32 bit memory access bus – which by the way will only slow down the loading time, that’s it. The graphics coprocessor (GPU) of the armada 610 is designed by vivante corp. and it uses the Vivante GC1000 design. The geometric rate of the vivante GC1000 gpu is 48 M tri/s which is greater than PowerVR SGX 535 GPU. That said is at about 630MHz GPU frequency, now even if you half the frequency to conserve power then you get more then 20 M tri/s.

Marvell is among the pioneer in ARM processors and above all if you look at it the two chips were released in the same year which means same timeline.

    • Arpan Deb says:

Yes, that is because, HCL ME X1 does not have Android Market installed. And as far as I know, installing the Google Market app and than trying to download apps from the market, does not work very well either.

Also the NAND access bus / secondary memory access bus width will not only affect video/game file loads it will also hamper play back, when you are playing 720p/1080p videos or loading levels of a game. If you are working on files or a browser and surfing, moving files to/from the cache will also incur delays. This will become more evident when you have lots of apps running in the background and they need access to the NAND memory.

The XTAB, on the other hand is pre rooted, has custom ROM,s available and you can even get the source code for the ROM if you want. Also the ROM installation routines on the XTAB is much easier, you just have to put the rom files on the SD Card and reboot it. And to top it all there are multiple versions of the ROM (2.2, 2.3,2.3.1,2.3.2).

You can also change the config files and add / load drivers for all kind of USB 3G dongles, which is quite useful. I used both the devices and found XTAB more suitable to my taste.

Having said that, the HCL ME X1 is also a good device and a value for money and it can do almost all things you can throw at it. My point of view can be different from a customer, since, I use / test a lot of tablet device so when I review a device, I may sub consciously compare it with its nearest rival or so on and so forth.

  8. Aurobindo says:

Oh yes, I forgot one last thing about armada 610. It has has, which was originally inherited from Intel, iwMMXt which stands for Intel Wireless MMX Technology. With this technology the armada 610 can simultaneously play videos at 1080p as well as 3D games/apps.

If it is available for Android, yes you can. But right out of the Android has a poor font collection, so you may have to hack around the system.

    • Arpan Deb says:

I can not comment on the iBerry device, I have not tested it. iBerry does not seem interested in providing a piece for review. Telechip 8803 1.2 ghz is a good cpu based on the Cortex A8 core. But, than the performance of a tablet is a sum of all its parts. The CPU alone can only do so much. But they are giving a 10.1 inches screen. Watching movies and surfing the web is always better on a bigger screen.

I know Gautam says that he has used su at adb shell but I have not tried that. Gingerbreak just gives the message will reboot when successful but gets stuck on that. Please help. Thanks.

        • This is quite strange. After Prabhats comment, I started doubting my process of rooting. Installed DroCap2 (takes screen-shots) and it worked.

Are you using the GingerBreak apk or the binary?
If you have tried both and they don’t work and if you are really really interested in rooting the device, you can check out the source code of the GingerBreak and try taking advantage of the exploit through adb (might become very complex, I am trying to understand the code, will put up a post at my blog once I am done).

Running su at the adb shell means that I connected my device, opened the adb shell and ran ‘su’. The command prompt symbol will change to # instead of $.

          • Arpan Deb says:

I studied the code when it came out, essentially the exploit uses a vulnerability in which the VOLD daemon explicitly trusts messages received from PF_NETLINK sockets. This allows execution of arbitrary code from user level processes to gain root. Gingerbreak exploits the DirectVolume::handlePartionAdded method in DirectVolume.cpp. If the VOLD daemon is patched, this exploit will not work. You can look at the the DirectVolume.cpp in the android source tree to get more information.

@gautam, great blog you got there. Nice write ups, wish I could find the time to code. Coding is a hobby of mine [C,PHP - Java (1999 to 2001), a little bit of Assembly for the x86].

Are swing classes still used in enterprise coding to create GUI in Java? I mean do developers still use it in professional projects ?

          • Snkr, please note that this is my first tablet so my review isn’t comparative to other tablets but more from my stand point. If you need a comparative analysis Arpan would be able to help you better.

The display is decent. It’s fair enough to play games and watch movies. However I felt it would have been better if it was a little brighter. (Change the initial wallpaper the screen will look better :) )

The touch screen response is good enough. I didn’t feel any drawbacks when I used it. I installed games like Angry Birds and could play them well.

The downsides I felt were the battery and the lack of Android Market. The device is working well for 6-8 hours (standby + usage) with a complete charge of the battery, felt this could have been better but maybe this is probably what tablets offer. And whatever HCL may about the ME Store it’s no match to the Android Market (there might be a hack to install it but haven’t tried it).

On a whole I would say it’s a good buy for the price. Remember it’s a budget tablet and don’t expect to be as good as a Samsung Tab or an iPad.

    • I installed DroCap2 (a software which takes screen shots, heard it requires root access) and it worked. I realized su can be installed on any device but it was showing me pop-ups when DroCap2 was trying to gain root access, that how I concluded my device was rooted.

Anyways I may be wrong, can you send me a link of the apk for Titanium Backup I will give it a try.

The Android market news is awesome, did HCL mention a time frame for that?

On the contrary to what Naju said, if it really has ARM Mali-200 as the gpu then this device, in my opinion, isn’t worth it because as you said “it can be any one of the ARM based CPUs”. It could even turn out to be Telechip or Rockchip. This is nightmare scenario.

    • I was just going through SuperOneClick. The way I see it, the application is a .NET front-end for two exploits and sees if the device can be rooted using any one of these. They are the GingerBreak and the psneuter exploits. (It previously used RageAgainstTheCage but later disowned it)

If GingerBreak didn’t work for you, I am guessing it used psneuter and I am a little apprehensive about psneuter since it messes up the property service and that a big big drawback.

Here is where I read about it – http://androidforums.com/2268422-post43.html
For those of you who are new to the Property System – http://rxwen.blogspot.com/2010/01/android-property-system.html.

I am not 100% sure but wanted to warn you in case. Please check that once before you use it. If someone can confirm that psneuter is safe, I will be happy.

SORRY, I LEFT THIS COMMENT ON SCREEN GUARD PAGE. I AM COPYING SAME HERE.
    Hi Arpan,
I am new to this site. I have also bought the HCL tablet, in fact I ordered it within few hours of its release on their website.
I have read your comments & opinion which is quite useful and I also have my own comments to make after initial use of the tablet.
First of all, I must say that HCL has come out with a value for money budget tablet, however in the process they have missed out on some basic important requirements. They have conveniently not declared the entire tablet specifications on their website, e.g. no bluetooth or GPS etc. Other third party websites have mentioned availability of this in their specs for HCL tab, which becomes misleading for first time tablet user.
For me connecting to internet is a major problem since android devices do not have adhoc wifi enabled and hence I cannot connect the tablet to nokia mobile wifi hotspot. I am only using it thru my home wifi.
Now I am planning to go for tata photon but this unnecessary extra expenditure could have been avoided. I am not familiar with rooting or gingerbreaking the device and so I do not want to undertake this adventure.
With no bluetooth connectivity, it becomes cumbersome to transfer files. They have not provided hdmi cable either, I presume other tablets are provided with. Brightness is also an issue as other resders have mentioned. Please advise if someone has installed skype or yahoo messenger. I am having problem with finding the proper version for the same. I have tried many versions from the skype website but none of them works, so havent really used the tablet for video chatting. I wish HCL had provided all of the popular applications on their ME applications instead of thousands of other misc. and unpopular applications, especially in the event of no default android market app.
I am hopeful that I will be able to overcome many of these shortcomings over a period of time with the help of comments on your blog.
Thanks once again for this blog and keep up the good work.
    All the best.

The unrooting process of GingerBreak did work (all my applications which use root like su, DroCap2, etc. have stopped working)

But now when I tried to root it again, I am unable to do so. I am back to square one.
I started analyzing the vold daemon and looks like the exploit has been patched since my NETLINK messages are bouncing back. But how it worked the previous time still remains a mystery to me.

@gautam, you are right about gingerbreak. Super1click works through gingerbreak only. The program seems to go into a loop and you will get stuck at stage 6 .let the program run for ten minutes (jam not sure whether you should wait for that long but naja had recommended it and so has sagar T hen you toggle USB debug mode off and then on wait for another minute. If nothing happens power off and on your device (keep it connected via USB) keep the superclick program running always and you will move onto step 7 and if you again get stuck wait for a minute and then again toggle usb debug mode wait again as before and if required reboot the mex1 again.you should have a OK on the superclick screen now.bring up task manager stopadb .exe process and then eject x1. Disconnect from computer and reboot. Terminal emulator will now confirm su. Type su u will see the $ change to #. Android market still will not work and I still don,t know how together clockworkmod working because the model is not listed.

@all you can access and install android market and applications through net. The process though is slightly complex. You have to first install preferably market version 1.8 or thereabouts through .apk file. Then run it sign up etc. Ten clear cache and in some cases data through application manager. Then using Roman manager fix file permissions. The market will load flawlessly but if you try to download you will get download unsuccessful error. Open your browser. Connect to market website and signup.go to settings and give e your device a nickname. It will have been detected as hcl x1. Go back to market and download and install. There is still the device compatible ility issue with a no. Of programs as you will have to toggle the display spirit I think it is 160default to either 200 or 240 using LCD density changer etc. Have not done that but still have downloaded LCD density, titanium backup, squitch etc. Google setting up this Device compatibility thing is really irritating as minor display variations will make programs incompatible whereas if you sideload the APk it will run flawlessly

  34. It’s wonderful to see so many people working on HCL ME X1 :)

Can someone tell me if you set the exploit in SuperOneClick as Auto, GingerBreak or psneuter? I am convinced SuperOneClick is working but I want to know which exploit did it since I am trying to understand what SuperOneClick does internally. If someone can confirm that SuperOneClick used psneuter instead of GingerBreak I will be able to understand the rooting process a lot better. (will put my finding here as well)

It’s nice that ClockworkMod is also working. I recently found an article here for taking a backup – http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-optimus-s-rooting-roms-hacks/51694-how-nandroid-nonsense-back-up-your-phone-without-nandroid.html. Arpan can you confirm if this is a genuine process.

And by the way, I got my root back. GingerBreak unroot left my adb with root access. With this temporary root access I modified su to make it permanent.

    • Yes Prabhat I saw that but that is what is confusing me. Actually I am trying to understand why it worked. I used the GingerBreak binary in adb and saw the source code. The reason why it’s looping is that it is unable to do a fault using the NETLINK socket (probably because the exploit was patched). This is the same loop that is being executed in Step 6 of SuperOneClick.

So GingerBreak had no effect on the tablet. But the reason SuperOneClick worked was that it was still able to remount /system, install the su binary and the SuperUser.apk (the steps from 7 onwards).

If GingerBreak didn’t work, then SuperOneClick would not have been able to install them unless adb had already root access. I have a very very strong feeling HCL forgot to secure adb access before it shipped the tablet, SuperOneClick didn’t use any exploit at all but installed su directly.

HCL forgetting to secure the access seems a little absurd, right? Even I thought the same, so after posting my comment yesterday I decided to check this possibility. I did a “cat /default.prop” and saw that ro.secure was set to 0 (it is this property that adb uses for security, it should be 1 for secure). Almost all devices have 1 here not 0 and it cannot be changed since it’s a part of the ramdisk.

But I cannot be 100% certain until I check with another device. Can someone check the following -

      1. Are you logged in as root by default in adb (seeing a # instead of a $)
      2. Is the value of ro.secure 0? (can be checked either by reading /default.prop or “getprop ro.secure”

I know most of you are happy that SuperOneClick worked (I am too) but if my assumption is correct that it worked without an exploit our device warranty is safe since we haven’t really hacked it but only installed a software.

Like or Dislike this Comment ::==> Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

      • If my assumption is wrong, it’s a deeper mystery for me since I don’t know how ro.secure got changed to 0. :)

@all before rooting or installing clockworkmod first use adb shell and cat /dev/mtd* >/sdcard/tflash/*.image to copy all mtd files as image to your SD card. Then copy cat /proc/mtd > /sdcard /tflash /proc_mtd.txt. then make second copy somewhere else for extra security. note u can also use adb pull for the above procedure and directly copy to computer. for tips on installing android sdk look at naju post. after doing this install clockwordmod5 from stockrecovery. then use either the cwm5recoxery mode or superclick to install superiser .then install android market a.set up account and using net logon enter market. sign in on the net name your device using settings on website and have complete market access. note only compatible programs will be downloaded. all necessary files can be acquired by following threads. on xda developers website. or by Googling Coby kyros mid 7022 clockword mod and cm7. do not install cm7 still not working. you may lose touchscreen. all thanks to fun and nabroto (I may have got the spellings. wrong) . senior mods on xda site.again if you are using superclock all you need to do is click on superclock set to gingerbreak and root.you will stop at step 6 .just disconnect USB wire and reconnect immediately. if using clockwork mod just install in came recovery using zip file of superuser. ihave tried and successfully used superuclick to unroot I.e.remove superuser files and go back to factory status. use cement to make complete backup and then save it to secure place. u can enter recovery by pressing power and then holding back (big button) till it enters recovery.

  44. Does anyone have any good tutorials for building a custom ROM from source for a device?

I have downloaded the source and built it and got the compiled system directory but I am looking for a tutorial from that point. How can we push the compiled image to the device?

Also do I have to bother about any vendor specific drivers? HCL ME X1 doesn’t seem to have a /system/vendor directory at all.

Like or Dislike this Comment ::==> Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

    • Arpan Deb says:

You have to build the boot loaders and kernel images too. Also, i have seen that some times drivers are not always under system/vendors. So you have find the .ko files. Also what kind of boot loader and boot image is the X1 using. If it is using u-boot loaders, than it will be quite easy.

      • I was planning to use the pre-built kernel that is obtained with the android source code, is it ok?

How can I find what kind of boot-loader the device is using?

Like or Dislike this Comment ::==> Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

        • Arpan Deb says:

The prebuilt kernel may not work since the ramdisk size, memory block addresses vary across the devices. Your best bet is to get the boot loaders / kernel image from the X1.
Connect the device through adb, there should be a partition called /boot, you can find the boot loader and kernel in it. The best way to check for lock status is to test it with fastboot. Here is a tutorial that provides a step by step method for using Fastboot

          http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/04/10/find-out-if-your-bootloader-can-be-unlocked-guide/

Even though the tutorial is Xperia centric, you can get the fastboot files and try to find out.

After you download the kernel and boot loader, you can move forward.

Like or Dislike this Comment ::==> Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

          • I used fastboot on the device and it worked.
So I guess the bootloader is unlocked.

I can extract the boot.img doing a cat on /dev/mtd/mtd2. Do I have to extract the ramdisk and kernel from it? If yes how can I do it?

Like or Dislike this Comment ::==> Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

          • Arpan Deb says:

Not required. But if you want you can extract the kernel and ramdisk for curiosity’s sake. The boot image is using yaffs file system. So you will need unyaffs tools to extract the files.

          • I found a few .ko files in the /system/lib/modules, /system/wifi and /lib/modules.

I tried copying the files from /system/lib/modules and /system/wifi to the compiled directory. I zipped the compiled /system along with these drivers and created an updater-script to copy the /system.

Installed the update.zip using ClockworkMod but the device doesn’t boot and is stuck at the slash screen :( . Any ideas?

Luckily I had a restore ROM so could bring back the OS using Clockwork Mod.

          • Arpan Deb says:

Seems like a kernel panic. If it went to splash screen it means it is accessing the /system partition but somehow it does not load any further. A log file should help to pin point the exact cause.

Try to download an older version of Google Market to your phone, Than use your gmail id to sign in to the market. Do not download anything.
Now go to your PC and login to http://market.android.com with the same gmail id you used in the tab. Download the apps to your PC, it will be automatically synced with your tab.
Now go to your tab and install the apps.

I have not tried installing directly to system using clockwork mod because the other method ( I have described it ) is working fine. Everyone please note that this tablet is a copy of Coby Kyros mid 7022(thanks to aditya for pointing this out.)for downloading necessary clockwork mod 5 files check out the xda forum and the telechips site. you can google for clockwork mod on coby kyros 7022. you should get all the instuctions you need. For additional safety follow the steps I had earlier posted here. For installing superuser you can use superoneclick or directly copy the zipfile to sd card and install using clockworkmod. revert back for any help if needed.

The idea is to push talk.apk and vending.apk. to the system /app folder. Then you will no longer get download unsuccessful errors. Easiest way is to first root (it is already rooted) but you have to instàll superuser via çlockworkmod and then inßtall ysfilebrowser cupcake edition.give it superuserpermission when prompted in root options and then mount system drive. Copy the above two apps and then reboot. You will have everything . Finally came up with this which is the simplest. No adb etc required. Enjoy.

Hi Venkat,if the icon is in green and white and says market then yes it is the official android market . besides in order to access the maret u should have logged into it using your gmail account which thus verifies that it is the official version . Market does come as default, probably if you had not downloaded and installed it,the guys in infibeam must have done it . One thing is that i have not tested the latest version of market and i have installed the 3.4.4 version . I am not even sure wether this is the latest version but i am quite happy with it . Btw how any hours of baatery are u able to manage out of your tab??In mine, the battery drains quite rapidly with wifi on .
